ABOUT
THE SHOW
John
Walker: The Musical
The Adventures of the American Taliban
This
rock-and-roll black comedy tracks John Walker, the "American Taliban," as he escapes
the clutches of a pervy power-hungry government official named E.D. during a spectacular
anti-terror event in Times Square. With the aid of a vain hack reporter named
Don, John Walker dashes across the U.S.in a desperate search for a crusading whistleblower
named Jessie, a woman who has the secret documents that could exonerate him.
Through
their quest, we learn how an American suburban boy would toss his easygoing California
lifestyle to become a fundamentalist Muslim and fight in a foreign war.
A hilarious
musical, John Walker: The Musical includes chases and hot girl fights, inventive
dance numbers, shifting loyalties and sudden plot twists. With rocking songs like
"Taliban Plan," "Well if this Ainąt America (I Donąt Know What
Is)" and "Don't Want No Chemicals Dumped on Me," your political
anxieties will melt away and you will feel asubversive glee.
The
show is an emotional and musical roller coaster, sometimes funny sometimes dramatically
gripping. The score ranges from square-dance country to post-punk to Cole Porter-influenced
ballads. Whatever your musical tastes, you will find yourself humming one of the
tunes as you leave the theater. And whatever your political stripe, you will feel
deeply for the plight of these unique characters.
